Fine & Rare Chinese Han Dynasty Glazed Pottery Hu Jar (with fish)

This fine pottery jar (hu) was made during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). It is made from a fairly high-fired reddish pottery and coated in a particularly attractive thick glossy streaky-green and finely-crackled glaze, the colour of which varies according to its thickness. Interestingly, the drips of glaze to the mouth rim and the pooling of glaze to the flat base show that this jar was fired upside down...

Very rare Warring States Period circa (circa 475BCE–221 BCE) jar with ribbed pattern. I’ve seen these in publications, but this is the first one I have seen in person. There is one chip on the mouthrim, as can be seen in enlargements, but otherwise in excellent condition. Very sharply carved with decorated lugs. H: 13cm/5.1in and D: 16cm/6.2in.

This is an example of a classic Archaic Jade form dating to the Warring States Period, 475-221BCE known as a "Huang". The piece measures 5" end to end (12.5cm). The stone is uniform in tone, with a small brownish inclusion at one end. The carving is spectacular, as, hopefully, the closeup high resolution photographs will confirm. This piece has been examined and authenticated by one of the foremost experts in the world. I have included a copy of his COA in this listing...
