Chinese Ming dynasty porcelain dish decorated in underglaze blue on a white ground with a hou in a central roundel surrounded by a band of peony flowers and scrolling foliage. One of the nine sons of the dragon, the hou has the appearance of a lion and is depicted roaring at the sky. A similar peony band with scrolling foliage encircles the rim on the reverse side. Circa 16th century. 9 3/4” diameter x 2” high. Very good overall condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs...

Chinese late Ming dynasty Wanli period Zhangzhou (Swatow) porcelain deep dish decorated in underglaze blue on a white ground with a roundel at the center holding a phoenix bird standing on a rock under trees in a landscape. A thick border of six floral panels reserved on a fish scale background surrounds the rim. Typical sand grit to the base. 16th/17th century. 11 3/8” diameter x 2 1/4” high. H. 14,5 cm. One side decorated with a landscape with figures, the other side with flowers. Condition: firing crack in the neck, age cracks in the glaze. Comes with the original Christie's sticker, the original certificate and the invoice from 1992.
The Vung Tau sank in 1690 on its way from China to Batavia, Indonesia. The cargo was meant for Amsterdam. The wreck was found in the early 90's and it's content was auctioned at Christie's Amsterdam in 1992...
