A rare and wonderful Chinese porcelain bowl with beautiful glaze designs of cranes flying over crashing waters, each carrying a different object of auspicious nature, such as a lotus, a scroll, a fan, a sword, a gourd bottle, and a basket of fruit. An overglaze enamel red and green wine cup, decorated with lotus scrolls. Ming dynasty 16th century. Overall good condition except enamel glaze is slight fade, but free from restoration. Height: 4.4cm and Diameter: 5.3cm.

The Chinese porcelain dish has a border of two repeating elements, a garlanded ruyi and three interlinked rings. The centre of the dish depicts a Chinese landscape with two scholars approaching a solitary angler. The dish was made for the Japanese where such pieces were used and much appreciated in the tea ceremony, at a time when the Japanese porcelain industry was in its infancy.

Chinese Ming dynasty (1368-1644) ritual dragon bell covered overall with a fine celadon glaze that extends down and stops neatly at the unglazed scalloped edge. The unglazed tips are burnt orange-brown from firing. Fine incised details are visible in the body behind the glaze. A double-dragon handle is at the top. The interior is fully glazed.
