Guangxu Period, Qing Dynasty Porcelain with overglaze painting in grisaille, gilt, and enamel d: 25 cm Three glaze lines, visible only on the back From a Marin County, California estate In the scholarship, late 19th century is often regarded as a period of decline, during which potters produced inferior, derivative imitations of earlier wares... A rare well potted jar with fine porcelain body and very well painted, in under glaze blue, depicting two flying phoenix amongst scrolling foliage. The base carries the six character reign mark of the Kangxi emperor (1662-1722) but this item was made later, in the 19th Century, probably circa 1800-1850 during the reign of either the Jiaqing or the Daoguang emperor. Condition - excellent - no damages and no repairs or restoration...
Porcelain wall pocket modelled as a recumbent court official, decorated in famille rose enamels. Condition: excellent. Dimension: 17.4 cm long x 6.8 cm high, weight: 342 g.

Inside stands a bearded sage in a textured light cream and brown glaze. The Chinese Justice Cup was engineered with a twist; if it is filled to a "greedy" or top level, all of its liquid contents run out from the bottom of the cup. Age: 19th Century.

The first, small poem on the neck of the vase, describes the under glaze blue painted picture on the reverse side. Roughly translated - "Fisherman looks across riverbank - there are Huang Yang trees. There are three roads leading home and he carries a 'dan' (two baskets with carrying yoke)...
