Ma Quan was a female artist active in 17th and 18th centuries famous for her birds and flower paintings. This is a homage to her made in the 20th century, hand painted ink on paper traditionally mounted on a silk paper scroll. He is sitting on a lotus throne with his right hand raised in the Shuni mudra symbolizing patience and discipline.
