Early 20th Century Chinese Gilt Lacquered Wood Carved Pierced Temple Altar Box with Stand

It is 15.2 inches (38.5 cm) tall by 10.75 inches (27.3 cm) wide. It is 6.6 Lb.

It has been repaired where one corner has a small piece glued back. It also has small gaps, chips, cracks, surface wears and scratches, peeling of lacquer, and the bottom is glued to the stand (as seen in the photos).

The Guanyin seated on a lotus throne, accompanied by two attendants. At the back of the figure there is an opening where offerings or religious texts were kept. This piece is 35 cm tall and dates from the 18th century. Condition: paint loss, worm holes (treated), age wear, an ornament missing at the top of the back plate. From a Dutch private collection.

Chinese wooden Rice Cake Mold with Lotus Seed design, Ca. 1930, 9 1/2" long, 3 3/4" wide-widest part, hand saw mark, the condition is used old worn out and patina on wood.

Chinese wood grain Shuffle or bucket, 24" high, 9 1/2" wide, 7" deep, with iron mounted around the corners and curved handle in front,and round handle on the bottom area to grip firmly. Worn area and shows a lot of usage.

Chinese Wooden Grain Measuring Bucket, 11" high, 7 1/4" square-top, 14" square-bottom, with heavy black iron mounted frame with multiple studded iron nails, the heavy iron frame covers around the top rim, underneath 2 sides with attached wooden handles. Bottom area of black iron mounted frame is somewhat rusted and damaged with age, and some age cracks on wood.

Chinese heavy weight wooden grain measuring bucket with black iron mounting with studded nails, 10" high, 7" square-top rim, 12" square-bottom rim, two(2) handles are positioned in different angle to hold the heavy weight grain. There are Chinese Characters written in black calligraphy style on all four(4) sides. Some iron mounting area on the bottom is rusted and left rough wooden surface.

A wonderful Chinese wood elephant head architectural element. All sides are lacquered except for the back and top which are unfinished. This could be hung on the wall and used as a wall shelf to hold a small treasure. It is made of a heavy wood weighing 2 lbs and measuring 6" high, 4" widest, and 6" front to back. Date: mid 1800s.

A rare pair of carved wooden figures made in China during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). For comparison of costume and facial features we have photographed them alongside a Ming Dynasty Fahua glazed soldier. Four Chinese woodcuts from the famousvTen Bamboo Studio series. Each 28x23 cm. They have been removed from old frames with labels on the back as shown. From the UK Arts Council collection with catalogue numbers and inscriptions dating them 17th century. Beneath those labels were other smaller ones of C. E. M. A which stands for Committee for the Encouragement of Music and Art which was set up during World War 2 and went on to become the Arts Council. Undated apart from the label...

The Kwan Yin is holding a wish granting pearl and a ruyi scepter; both represent the powers of Kwan Yin who is thought to grant wishes and aid sentient beings. Chinese carved Wood Rice Cake Mold, Ca. 1930's, 9 1/2" long, 4 3/4" wide, 1" thick, with deep carved Chinese Peach and "Long Life" in Chinese Character in the center, very decorative and well carved out of raw piece of wood and hand saw mark in the back outside. The condition shows wear and tear.
