Kihara kiln of Kyushu region was operating during the transition times between the decline of Karatsu tea ceremonial ware and the raise of Shoki-Imari ware (approx. 1624-1671)...

This deep plate was fired with no glaze at the first, and the second fired pictured traditional pattern with blue glaze and the third colored picture depicted peachs and flowers, and the last painted with gold. Very sophisticated piece. Size: 28.8cm(D) 5.0cm(H)

Skillfully crafted Shino ware Tea Bowl (Chawan) for tea ceremony made in 19 century by anonymous potter.

Shino ware is produced in today's Gifu prefecture since 16th century and it is distinguished by thick white glazes, red marks and the surface of small holes.

A joyful yellow light seems to shine like a jewel from within the fissures of this cool tea bowl by Kitagawa Kazuki enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kasane iro-me Chawan. The cloth textured surface seems to glow warm like the promise of warm days to come, cherries blossoming wide on this sake set by Ito Motohiko enclosed in the original signed wooden boxes. The Guinomi is 7.5cm (3 inches) diameter 3.5cm (1-1/2 inches) tall. The Tokkuri is 9.5cm (just less than 4 inches) diameter, 14.5cm (just less than 6 inches) tall and both are in excellent condition.

Ito Eitai (1876-?) was a Japanese painter born in Nagasaki prefecture in Japan. He was a disciple of Migita Toshihide (1863-1925), Murase Gyokuden, and Kawabata Gyokusho. He specialized in portrait paintings, landscape paintings, and bird and flower paintings.

Some insignificant light marks are present on the painting itself, otherwise the painting and mounting are in fine condition...

This is a japanese antique indigo dye cotto tsutsugaki futon cover.It is a design of plovers, waves and family crests.Hand-spun, natural indigo-dyed cotton that is thick and has a very nice texture.There is a very light stain, but it is not noticeable. A fine, small ginbari cloisonne vase with pale blue, silver background and peonies decoration; one panel with pale purple background and bird, bamboo and flowers decoration; and another panel with blue background and flowers decoration. Impressed artist's mark on the metal base. Meiji period (1868 - 1912). Good condition with tiny, oxidized pinholes in the enamel surface from the firing (not detracting from condition or presentation). Height, 3 1/2 inches (8.9 cm)

A fine and unusual Hizen-yaki, Kakiemon type, small foliate dish. Chocolate brown rim in iron oxide. Unusual blue and white decoration of a samurai with a young monk across the saddle on horseback - bow drawn to ward off pursuing Buddhist monk. This appears to depict one of many tales of old Japan - perhaps The Take of the Heike as relates to Minamoto Yoshitsune and the warrior monk Benkei. A reading of the kanji may shed light...

A pair of Japanese Imari porcelain dishes. A later example with Namban (or Nanban - Southern barbarian) subject "Black Ship" dishes. The decoration in the Imari palette depicting Portuguese figures and their famed trading ship, that between Japan and China. Good condition. Showa period, probably mid 20th century. Dimensions: Diameter about 10 inches, Height about 1 3/8 and 1/14 inches respectively.

A big Samurai clay doll made of Fushimi clay of the Kyoto area. He is standing proud and strong in the position of drawing a sword.

It is a figure with pleasing and charming signs of time and rests of colours. The Samurai figure dates from the late 19th. century or probably earlier.

Normally all the clay dolls are somehow originated from the Fushimi clay of the Kyoto area...

This amber Raku chawan was made in late Edo Period (1800-1868). Raku pottery is traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremony since as early as the 16th century.
