Exceptionally elegant red vermillion lacquered zen buddhist temple sutra table in its original signed and dated box. Dated Keio gannen 8 (c.1865) the tapered legs and metal fittings on the table top indicate this was made for a rich temple. 37cm tall and 53cm wide the very top is in its own cotton wrapping. Labeled as yu-Shino on the box or “evening†Shino, this recent composition by Ryouji Hayashi III displays wonderful textures and hues resembling the blazing sky at sunset. The front of the bowl is decorated with radiating fissures— boldly contrasting with the background while the kodai or foot of the bowl is unglazed showing the light-colored clay beneath.

This is a beautiful and rare original antique Japanese Polychrome Woodblock Print "Itsutomi" Ukiyo-e by Utagawa Toyokumi dated 1793 or 1795, Edo Period, depicting a beautifully dressed and elegant Lady with her Shamisen instrument on the floor. Calligraphy markings/seal. Overall in very good condition with very small inconsequential tear on the outside (right frame, see photo). Size: 15.5" x 10.25" (39.5 cm. x 26.5 cm). This Woodblock has now been framed under glass.

Japanese Black Lacquer heavy thick Cyprus wood Armor Trunk or Armor Storage Box with heavy black iron mounted, Ca. late 1800's, Meiji period, 19 1/2" high, 20 1/2" wide, 13 3/4" deep, lift up top, mounted with heavy black iron handles and corners with large red Kanji writing on both sides, and plain black lacquer finish on the sides, inside the trunk is finished with beige color lacquer. Shows wear and tear on heavy lacquer finish around edges and trims.

Japanese Black Lacquered on woven Bamboo and hinged top Trunk with wooden frame for strength and Black Iron hardware, Ca. Meiji, 1880's, 22" high, 31" wide, 16" deep, Red lacquered leaf shape mon decoration with Kanji Characters, original woven rope handle in the back, and original Rice Paper lining inside. Some black lacquer finish pieces are off from the woven Bamboo surface.
