A stunning delicate cup made from a hollowed egg-shell. Inside is matte-black with patches of gold gilding, while outside the silhouettes of pines and a soaring Hototogisu (cuckoo) are deftly brushed with shiny black lacquer. The imagery instantly calls to mind Japanese poetry, which extols the song of the cuckoo, a harbinger of Spring and warmer weather. Kuro Hirosawa (1772-1840) Shino ware Chawan for tea ceremony with appraisal box. The name "Kuro" is carved near the foot ring.

Kuro Hirosawa was a samurai of Nagoya clan and a potter in the late Edo period. He enjoyed the tea ceremony and made tea utensils of Ko-Seto, Shino, Karatsu style in his free time. His works have a unique appearance and often called Kuro ware.

Furoshiki (wrapping cloth) with tsutsugaki auspicious motifs of seven treasures (takara-zukushi), which is made of hand-woven cotton and vegetable indigo dye. Tsutsugaki is paste-resist-dye and colors are added with mostly pigments. Treasures are: sacred jems, cloves, a lucky mullet, a hiding hat, a coat, citruses and so on. It is made in Kyushu in Meiji period (1868～1912)　In good condition except for three mending patches and some tiny holes. 94cm x 124cm

A beautiful bamboo shaped vessel of pale gray glaze by Takahashi Samon enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Konabiki Hanaire. It is 28 cm (11 inches) tall and in excellent condition.
Takahashi Samon (b. 1948) first studied with Kato Kobei V and Living National Treasure Kato Takuo. He then entered the Gifu Prefectural Ceramic Institute to study kiln making before going to the Kamakura kiln of Kitaoji Rosanjin for further study. He established his own kiln in 1977...

Juban (under kimono) made of hand-spun cotton with shibori design, dyed with vegetable indigo. The shibori technique of the top part is Te-Kumo Shibori (Hand-bound Spiderweb) and the lower part is Kanoko shibori (Bound Dots) and Boshi shibori (Capped Motifs) with mum design, which is dyed in Akita prefecture.
