Pair of solid cast mixed metal buttons representing different means of Japanese locomotion from the late 19th century. They are made of silver and shakudo inlaid with gold sentoku and silver. Some small details are in solid gold (dresses, petals, barriers) others are in gilded copper. The silver faces and hands are a bit worn as shown in the pictures. Real little jewels. Very nice quality work...

A sweetmeat dish consisting of 1 central hexagonal dish surrounded by 6 fan-shaped dishes. Each dish has a straight side and is decorated in the center with one of the seven gods of good fortune, shichifukujin in overglaze enamels and gold on cream colored stoneware. The central dish holds the image of the only female member of the shichifukujin: Benzaiten.

The central dish is signed on the back Gyokuzan in a red and gold cartouche...

Antique hanging scroll. A dragon dressed in kimono and apron stands on hind legs, and holds up high a jewel, as if offering to an invisible celestial divine creature. Above them is a swirl.

A highly attractive, hammered silver vase of rounded body rendered in parallel hammered bands and opened neck. Stamped silver mark in the bottom. Showa, c. 1950. H 17 cm, D 12.5 cm. Condition: Perfect. Natural patina.

An antique low single drawer storage Kotansu (personal chest) made entirely of Kirinoki (Paulownia) wood. Original hand forged heavy gauge iron hardware. Constructed using thick wood, straight dovetail joinery and hardened wood nails. Originally used to store Kimono or personal effects, it would work well in a contemporary home as a base storage unit on a large table or credenza .

Small kogo, incense box, in the shape of a crab in rest. Grayish brown grainy earthenware, much like Raku, with red glaze and with patches of green and white glaze. The eyes are accentuated with gold, as is a small area on it’s back.

Japanese kappazuri stencil print by the artist Yoshitoshi Mori. Mori developed his distinct style using the kappazuri print technique and grew to fame, exhibiting his work around the world. His distinct style shows how he was influenced by his work as a textile designer and dyer of kimono fabric, a job he had when he first graduated from art school. A mid century Japanese Biraki Kimono Tansu (chest with hinged doors) made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) Wood. Two large hinged doors open to a set of three Kimono trays. Side handles used for carrying the tansu from place to place. Front door plates feature Paulownia flowers and leaves.

Konyu was born the eldest son of his predecessor Raku XI Keinyu. He succeeded his father at the young age of 15, was succeeded by his son Seinyu and retired at 63 and died at the age of 76. He was a mild-mannered man, and is said to have dedicated himself to the continuation of the Raku family and its legacy...

Antique Japanese carved bamboo kakehana, wall vase for flowers. This section of bamboo has been carved with the figure of Quanyin (Kannon). The Goddess of Mercy is seen floating amidst storm clouds, ribbons of lightening streaking across the sky around her. There is a small rectangular hole in the back of the vase so it can hang from a hook or nail in the wall.
