A little warmth on a cold winter day, lets have a look at cheerful works of Tokugawa Hiroshi. Here is a deep “Apple Shaped” tea bowl covered in lightly crackled Ki-Seto (Yellow Seto) glaze fired upside down so that the glaze coalesces at the rim into a thin bead of yellow glass. It is 12.5 cm (5 inches) diameter and comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Ki-Seto Chawan with Shiori and Shifuku...

Lantern Flowers (Hozuki) decorate this snow white porcelain vase by Yamada Yoshiaki enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Henko. The imagery is expertly depicted over a form which has been allowed some freedom, more like the natural shape of a stone than a traditional vase. This is very much representative of this artists style, known for these asymmetrical shapes, natural corners and exquisite palette. It is 31 x 5 x 17.5 cm (12 x 2 x 7 inches) and is in excellent condition...

Beautifully hand sewn ka-gasuri summer kimono, partially lined with black and blue cottons, the color is dark blue to almost black, new condition with basting stitches. This is another Tsukurioki kimono. Tsukurioki means that it has been left unused after it was made into a kimono. These Kasuri kimonos have been associated with old women from the country-side, definitely for the non-fashionable group. These kasuri kimono are very durable, many were made to be worn as casual work clothes...

Travel shrine, or zushi, with sitting figure of Kukai, carved in wood. The founder of the Shingon sect sits on a low pedestal, his shoes put underneath. In his left hand he holds the rosary, in the right he formerly held a vajra. Figure carved in plain wood, the pedestal decorated in gold and the typical red, white, green and blue. The inside of the doors decorated with lotus flowers in dull gold lacquer on shining gold lacquer...

Japanese 20th Century porcelain vase. Made by artist, ITO SUIKO. ITO SUIKO is the art name, or GO of ITO YOSHIHARU 1894-1980. Born in Kyoto, Japan, ITO SUIKO studied ceramics under ITO TOZAN I and ITO TOZAN II. He first showed at the TEITEN in 1929 and established his own kiln in the GOJOZAKA area of Kyoto in 1931. In 1964 he became a judge for the prestigious NITTEN show, held annually in Japan. Stamp of artist, SUIKO, lightly stamped into bottom of vase...

Antique Japanese box with large lid, lacquered red and black with shell inlay, black lacquer mon of pine tree and writing in black, heavy iron hardware, has holes for tying top to bottom for travel. A very large,well potted, and finely decorated Satsuma earthenware vase made in Japan during the Meiji period (1868-1911). The foot-rim carries an impressed seal mark which reads - "Kozan". Condition - excellent - no damages and no restoration...
