Antique Japanese velvet painting "Yuzen Birodo". It is a beautiful image of Mount Fuji with a small town on a lake, the foreground is full of water lilies. It bears a seal in the bottom right of the image. Yuzen Birodo or velvet painting was a technique made popular during the 17th century. The artist would work using a special process of dying where the image is created in the weave of the fabric thus creating an image of rich colors...

Antique Japanese small ko tansu (chest for personal use). Made all of kiri wood. 7 drawers of various size, each with a bronze hirute shaped drawer pull. Two of the drawers have round lock plates. Nice overall patina.

An accordion album featuring calligraphy and paintings by various well known Zen priests of the first half of the 20th century. Including the opening there are 30 pages. The book is 22 x 31 cm and in overall fine condition. The opening pages are by Kutsu Deiryu (Izawa Kanshu 1895-1954, head priest of Kaiseiji), the famous protégé of Nakahara Nantenbo. A floral sweep of wheat is incised into the side of this blue tinged white porcelain incense burner by Japanese Living National Treasure Inoue Manji enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hakuji Some Mugi Chomon Koro (White Censer Incised with Blue Wheat). It is 12 cm (just less than 5 inches) to the top of the finial and is in excellent condition...

A vibrant double vase covered in signature naïve designs by Yamashita Moe enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Morinoyoru (Night in the forest). It is 12 x 24.5 x 27 cm (5 x 10 x 11 inches) and is in excellent condition. Her work is filled with joie de vie, and one cannot escape a smile when viewing it. Even the box is painted with a bright green silhouette of the vase, titled and signed in pink!

Sadamitsu Sugimoto, a great master of the ceramic art scene in Japan, was led by Tachibana Daiki the great Zen teacher and has been producing a lot of masterpieces through over 40 years .He has been studying the world of “wabi, sabi, and yugen” as his life's theme. This piece was made as "manaitasara" to be used at Japanese cuisine or tea ceremony. His shigaraki(stoneware) pieces are made by archaic way in old style kiln "anagama" burning red pine wood, so those ashes are turned to natura...

Japanese 20th century roof tile. The tile has a rabbit flying over the ocean, nicely carved into the top. The rabbit and waves are done in nice detail. The piece measures 11 1/4" wide, 10" tall and 6 1/4" deep.

Japanese Meiji Period bronze vase. The vase has a poet on the front and bamboo and plum blossoms on the reverse. The handles are done in the shape of stylized elephant heads. Beautifully done with gold, silver and SHAKUDO inlays. Unsigned. The vase measures 13" tall and 8" wide at the handles.

Japanese Edo Period carved wooden mini KANNON and attendants. The carved and painted KANNON, attendants (8) and hillside are beautifully done with great detail and expression. The hillside measures 9 1/2" tall, 9" wide and 7" deep. There are suppose to be 12 attendants but only 8 remain.

19th Century Japanese Ningyô of Fukurokuju, one of the Seven Lucky Gods. He is the God of Wisdom, Wealth and Longevity. 11 x 7 inches, 28 x 18 cm. Excellent Condition.

This old Japanese Noh theater mask has the expressive face of an old man. The mask is carved from paulownia wood and dates to middle Edo period, around 1750. The patina is wonderful.
