The younger of the two holds a wooden bucket on his shoulder, connected to a sack, while exchanging an envelope, presumably containing money, with his companion. His eyes are dark horn. Ivory netsuke depicting the awakening of Daruma, a popular figure in Japanese culture. Daruma is sculpted in a sitting position, his body round and compact, as he struggles to keep his eyes open after nine years of meditation. Signed Ikkosai 一光さ under the base next to the himotoshi holes. Period: Edo 19th century Dimensions: 3.6 x 3.7 x 2.2 cm. Conservation status: Excellent condition.

An inviting poem for the 8th month is engraved among the leaves and grapes clinging to the vines forming the handle on this tall ewer covered in pale white glaze by Otagaki Rengetsu dating from the 19th century. It is 22 cm (9 inches) tall, 13.5 x 19 cm across the handle and is in excellent condition...

Golden Maple leaves and five petaled plum blossoms float on the golden pond pooling on this early Edo period Karatsu Chawan decorated with a single Zen circle. Superb quality repairs gleam about the rim, one large repair decorated over top of the gold with fine amages of leaves and blossoms. The base is small and shallow, indicative of the early era. It is 12 cm (just less than 5 inches) diameter, 7.5cm (3 inches) tall and comes enclosed in an old wooden box...

Beautiful Japanese plique a jour cloisonne vase with an all over design of blossoming plum branches, lovely turquoise ground, no cracks, Meiji/Taisho Period (early 20th century). Size: 5 1/4" high.

The craftsman who fashioned this piece, the 9th Ohi Chozaimon (1901-1986), is the most widely recognized and most accomplished of the now 11 generations of Ohi potters. Born in Ishikawa Prefecture at the start of the 20th century, he took up the family craft and, at the age of 26, became the head potter. Raku tea bowls made by Ohi 9 are some of the finest you will encounter, comparing favorably to even tea bowls made by the main Raku lineage in Kyoto...

From our Japanese Collection, a large and beautiful imari charger, Meiji Period (1868-1912), one of two similar pieces we have, of scalloped-edge form with a basket of flowers in the center medallion, and panels of prunus and karakusa in the outer border, all vibrantly executed in traditional imari palette of iron-red, blue, orange, and gilt. This is a rich and gorgeous piece with great presence.

Japanese four prong Vajra or diamond thunderbolt form Chisakuin Temple, bronze with worn gilt, Edo age (over 200 years old). Very powerful ritual tool representing firmness of spirit and spiritual power. Worn gilt on one side, all over relief, double sided with lotus flower in center, trident prongs emerging from the four cardinal directions. Size: 6 1/8" long

This an exquisite Satsuma tea jar from Ryozan. The gold work and painting are examples of his best workmanship. The piece is in excellent condition but the original lid is missing and this lid has a repair. It was used to help this great piece display better. Maybe some one out there has a better lid for the great piece. It stands 6 inches tall.

N'aie Pas Peur by Mayumi Oda. N'aie pas peur translates has have not fear, the piece is also known as The Black Madonna. A mother and child stand together under a golden mandorla. The mother is Mary, mother of Jesus, she holds a white lily. This is print 7/50.

Antique Japanese porcelain bottle, with a light beige crackle glaze, and blue underglaze designs of a sailing boat floating atop of waves, and a solid blue ring around the base. The bottle is stout with a thin opening, for pouring aromatic oils onto one's hair. 19th century Size: 3" height, 3.25" width
