An architectural pottery sculpture made up of undulating walls delineating chambers within by Aso Rando titled Catfish. It is tantalizingly sculpted, the various rooms of squared clay walls belying the organic, undulating form of the fish. The sculpture is 22 x 10-1/2 x 7 inches (56 x 26.5 x 18 cm) and is in excellent condition. It comes with a signed placard by the artist.

Very original and refined Japanese box (kobako) in the shape of two fans joined together. The floral decoration with a profusion of flowers, chrysanthemums in their foliage, lotus flowers... in gold lacquer, nashiji, hirame, gold powder... The sides in gold and silver togidashi lacquer near a stream which corrugated. The edges are in shibuishi. Edo period 19th century. H5 x L15 cm.

A set of five sake cups, each engraved with a unique poem by the artist/nun Otagaki Rengetsu dating from her 83rd year enclosed in an antique Sarasa cloth pouch with silk pads between enclosed in an old wooden box. They are each 5 cm (2 inches) diameter and all are in excellent condition...

Japanese late 18th century white IMARI figure of a gentleman. Formed by hand and made of white porcelain with a clear glaze. The gentleman is dressed in formal kimono and is carrying a fan. Done with wonderful expression and in very nice detail. The piece has some natural flaws in the clay and glaze, such as stress cracks and glazing flaws. The figure stands 17 1/2" tall, is 6 1/2" wide and is 5" deep.

Japanese 20th century large porcelain vase by FUJII SHUMEI. The large bulbous form is decorated in a beautifully detailed mountain landscape with many trees. Signed SHUMEI on bottom. FUJII SHUMEI is a famous porcelain artist who exhibits at the prestigious annual NITTEN show in Japan. No storage box. The vase measures 12 1/2" tall and has a 11" diameter.

Antique two-section Keyaki wood tansu from the Fukushima region of Japan. It has a beautiful, warm woodgrain, iron warabite handles, with cherry blossom and leaf iron decorations above and below each handle, and a corner lockbox with a flower-shaped lock handle and ring pull with flower backing. 19th century Meiji Period. Japanese E. to Mid 20th century bronze vase by IPPOU. The vase has the design of various sea life creatures, such as octopus and a variety of fish done in fine design and detail. Signed IPPOU on bottom. The vase measures 8 3/4" tall and 5 1.2" in diameter.

Antique Japanese choba tansu made of keyaki (elm) wood. The top portion has two small drawers. The middle portion has a compartment opened by sliding panels with horizontal slats. The slats are made of quarter sawn keyaki wood which dramatically accents the striped quality of the wood grain. Below this is a single large drawer. The hardware is made of iron and includes round lock plates.

Japanese 2 section Mizuya or kitchen tansu, the front frame with original dark lacquer Hinoki (cypress) wood, Sugi (cedar) sides, and door panels of Keyaki (elm) burl with original reddish orange lacquer finish...

Dark glaze covers this beautifully crafted Koro from Kawai Kanjiro dating circa 1936 enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 11.5 x 9 x 8.5 cm (4-1/2 x 3-1/2 x 3-1/2 inches) excluding the lid and is in excellent condition. The lid is of exotic hardwood with an agate finial, and is a later addition (Kanjiro did not make lids for his koro). For similar examples see the Katsukawa collection published in the biblical tome by the Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art...

This is a great example of Japanese Satsuma artistry. This bowl was made and signed by Hankinzan. The bowl measures 5 inches across. It is an exceptional piece with extremely fine work. There are hundreds of detailed birds all with overglaze enamels. I also believe it was made with the thicker mercury fired gold. While this bowl looks nearly perfect, it has about a 1 inch line that goes part way down one side that is very hard to see without magnification...

An antique Japanese 2 section Nagoya Choba Tansu (merchant chest) made of Hinoki (Cypress), Akita Sugi (Cryptomeria from the Akita region) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. Original iron fittings. Constructed using mortise and tenon & through mortise and tenon joinery as well as hardened wood nails. There are side horizontal slats for added strength and support. The top sliding door panels were decorated with beautiful flowing grain Akita Sugi wood boards...

A fabulous wan-gata chawan on prominent foot reminiscent of the forms from his Okinawan experience by pottery legend Hamada Shoji enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kuro-yu Sabi-zo Chawan. An undulating snake of rust color drapes from the rim over the glossy black glaze, the effect mirrored around the foot ring. It is 13 cm (5 inches) diameter, 8.8 cm (3-1/2 inches) tall and in excellent condition...

Important and extremely rare Mid Edo Period Narumi Oribe Mizusashi (fresh water container) in perfect antique condition with no cracks or repairs and with its original lid. It is almost impossible to find such an old and valuable Oribe Mizusashi - so take your chance. It comes with a very good Japanese wooden box.
