Inquire for Price 15th Century Chinese Gilt Lacquer Bronze Manjushri Buddha Kwan-Yin on Lion Statue
She is 6.9 inches (17.5 cm) tall by 7.9 inches (20 cm) wide. She is 1327 gram. She has loss of gilded lacquer and patina, chips near her foot, oxidation, pitting, firing holes, and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos). Large Japanese Meiji period rounded square form black lacquered wood deep tray decorated in gold and polychrome accents with three birds among flowers and bamboo above a stream at the bottom. The rim is gold. 14 3/4" square with a lip nearly 2 1/4" high. Late 19th to early 20th century. Very good overall condition with only a few fine scratches on the back and a few tiny dings on the top edge. From the collection of a Japanese woman in Tucson, Arizona.

SOLD This sculpture includes an inscription on the reverse and is dated to "1427 Samvat," a date that places the sculpture in the 15th century. The piece has sustained a loss to the "edging" along the top (viewer's) right,as well as a loss adjacent to the "canopy," visible in the photograph. The casting quality is, in my opinion, outstanding,completely consistent with the early Jain classical style of sculpture. The piece has a beautiful, warm brown patina. It measures 6-1/4" in height.
