Rare item. Rokushaku Kanban which was worn by a palanquin bearer (kago-kaki) who was a servant worked for a feudal lord (tono-sama) and a bearer of a palanquin when the lord went out. There are various theories that the kimono is called "Rokushaku-Kanban": servants worked in the lord's residence or a castle are called "rokushaku" and the kimono has "kanban" which means a symbol or a family crest. Another theory is the length of the kimono is 6-shaku (approx.2m). This one is made of hemp whose w...

Rare Chinese Han Dynasty Glazed Pottery Milling Shed

This rare and very interesting pottery model of a milling shed was made during the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25 - 220). The building has a doorway at the back and a gabled roof. Inside is the rice pounder and mill. It is made from a fairly high-fired red pottery. The thin pale green glaze that, due to long burial, has degraded over time and acquired a silvery iridescence, coats the roof and outer walls, whereas inside is it just the pounder...

Bronze pagoda cast in 3 parts. The bronze is very old, it has an excellent patina which makes me think it is from the Ming period or earlier. The casting is rustic, it has some defects. Probably a very old provincial work. The 4 sides of the pagoda are open with 4 doors with 2 bronze panels, opening and closing as needed. This makes a total of 8 panels for the 4 doors. 2 doors lead to 2 staircases with balusters. The whole being made in a very simple way, one can guess the work of twisting and mo...
