Baluster-shaped, the vase decoration represents a procession, in gold and polychrome enamels, very finely detailed, of guards surrounding palanquins, servants equipped with lanterns, and others with fans, banners and standards. A lotus forming the basin for an incense burner sprouts from the back of this carved wooden elephant dating from the later 18th to 19th centuries (mid to late Edo period) 36 x 16 x 17.5 cm (14 x 6 x 7 inches). It appears to be carved from a single block of wood, covered in gofun with some polychrome color. The lotus was gilded in gold, now largely worn away. Cast solid silver cane. Very high relief decoration of 2 dragons and 2 bats surrounded by clouds, the carvings are precise. On the side the Chinese character "Shou" is inlaid in gold. The background is chiseled with amati. It is rare to find a cane of this excellent quality in solid cast silver, usually this type of cane being made of simply embossed silver. Dragons' legs have 5 claws (ancient imperial characteristic), one dragon is larger than the other (teaching), bats are in pairs (happiness)...

Very fine large Meiji Era Japanese porcelain bowl with a delicately painted floral motif accented with gold gilt highlights. The side of the bowl features cranes in various flying poses. There is an old staple and gold repair at the rim. Looking into the bowl it is not visible unless you are seriously looking for it. See last 2 photos. Bowl rings nicely. Signed on the bottom, this is a very large bowl measuring 12.5 inches across by 3.75" high.

This is a pale celadon and russet jade plaque, dating to the Qing dynasty. The piece is entirely worked by hand, with no indication of modern/machine carving (or re-carving). It measures 2-1/2 inches in length and has been perforated lengthwise to permit it to be strung with a cord and worn. The reverse side has been carved with a series of symbols. This is a large and early Buddhist applique textile, dating to no later than the mid-19th century. The design consists of a double-dorje centering a "yin-yang" emblem, representing the masculine and feminine principles of the universe. The piece is complete and intact with minimal wear as one would expect. It measures just over 30" in diameter. Textiles such as this one are exceedingly rare and seldom found.

This is a large, early and powerful Tibetan copper repousse head. The piece is adorned with a crown of five skulls surrounded by flames.There is some very minor damage to the figure's left ear, a split, visible in the photos.
