GBP £185 Rare Khmer 10th Century Glazed Covered Stoneware Box
This very rare and unusual stoneware box dates to the 9th or 10th century. It is quite "heavily-potted" and coated both inside and out in a thin transparent pale green glaze. Iron particles within the clay appear as black spots in the glaze. Although the base is flat it is a little uneven and the jar appears to "lean" depending on which angle it is viewed at. To the base are purpose-made incised lines, often seen on Khmer ceramics from the... Khmer 9th - 10th Century Glazed Stoneware Bottle

The body is a little under-fired, being absorbent, and has fired to a pale pinkish-white where unglazed toward the flat base. On opposing sides of the shoulder are two small thick loop handles. Height 10 cm. The mouth edge is...

$2,000.00 Rare lacquered bronze fibula inlaid with yellow metal nails which seems to be gold because it does not oxidize. The construction of this jewel is special, in fact the bronze base was cast and then pierced with thousands of holes in which tiny nails were fixed, welded or perhaps simply forced in. Then the whole was covered with brown lacquer. This technique gives a solidity that has allowed this fibula to stand the test of time, indeed the lacquer split by retraction but it remained in place firm...

SOLD This is a diminutive portrayal of a crowned Buddhist figure, most likely a Bodhisattva, dating to circa the 6th century AD, Northern Qi dynasty. Note that the nose and areas of the forehead are darker than the rest of the stone, indicating that they have been rubbed by the hands of worshippers over the centuries, creating a "sweat stain" darkening of the stone. The piece measures 1-1/2" in height and 1-3/4" front to back (depth) (4cm X 5cm), not including the stand (to which it has been permanen...
