For example, the cicada and snail are summer insects, the dragonfly and cricket are autumn. In addition, the insects have allusions to zen and Japanese philosophies. A fine and interesting bronze sculpture of a lady selling fish. The figure is holding a basket of fish with a humorous looking octopus wanting to jump out of the basket. Often during the Meiji period, figures from daily life such as sellers of various produce and products were created for the Euro-American market where the charm and simplicity appealed to collectors. A model of He Xiangu holding a flower basket, the only female deity among the Eight Immortals. Worked in silver and enamel, the head, hands and basket are detachable. Base marked with Chinese characters. Dating to the late Qing or early 20th century. Condition: losses to enamel and some oxydations under the enamel, one earring with small loss. A pair of 17th/18th Century style underglaze blue painted vases decorated with flowering branches of prunus blossom. The bases carry the four character reign mark of the Kangxi emperor but these items were made later, probably for export, during the late Qing or early Republic period, circa 1880-1920. Condition: one vase is in excellent condition, with no damages and no repairs or restoration; the other has a 0.7cm under rim chip (please view our 4th picture) and it has a re-glued 10cm section ...
