Sold in our Liverpool shop - August 2018 / 利物浦店内售出 - 2018年8月 A rare pair of carved wooden figures made in China during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). For comparison of costume and facial features we have photographed them alongside a Ming Dynasty Fahua glazed soldier.
Condition: there are extensive losses and most of their original gilding has worn away.

The figure is placed on a high hexagonal plint and wears a fine two-colour blue and turquoise glazed robe. The unglazed areas have pigmented colors in red, black and white. Finely painted facial details. The head is attachable as often seen on the largest figures from this period. The figure holds his masters Ming hat in his arms.
