Rare and endearing figure of a young boy disciple of Quanyin (the Goddess of Compassion) wearing a garment etched with a lotus flower - the symbol of Buddhism. He is often depicted near Quanyin with his hands in reverential prayer. The bronze is heavily cast and has wires imbedded underneath the pedestal, perhaps for attaching to a group of figures. The soapstone has a nice muted grey-green color with soft red and gold tone accents. The carved seal on the bottom has remnants of red pigment. Repulic period 20th century. A small Guanyin / Guan Yin, moving graciously with ribbons and a fan, her hairdo with flowers and jewels. Chinese, early Republic period or somewhat earlier, carved in greenish speckled soapstone and fixed onto a rhombic hardstone stand. Height altogether "4 ¾ / 12 cm. Condition: piece of the ribbon near the right shoulder of the goddess is missing (cf. pics).
