Description: A wood manuscript cover was wonderfully carved by traditional craftsmanship.
By a unique design of rectangular panel in the center, the Shakyamuni Buddha seated on an Indian Pala-style throne with lion base and in earth-witness gesture.
Around the central panel are a pearl border and a border of lotus petals next to it.
Reserved with ancient brownish patina, the wood panel still kept the original aroma of the burning worship oil.

Description:

A bronze Shakyamuni buddha was kept in very good condition.
Had been gilt on the surface but just faded, there are only traces left in the pleats.
It was rarely found that the under cover at the bottom was original when tickling sound was heard inside the hollow base.
It hinted that the original devotion items were still kept within after 600 years.

Date: 15th/16th century.

A contemporary but very attractive Tibetan ewer, crafted of thin, hand-worked sheets of white metal that appear to be some type of nickel/aluminum amalgam, decorated with deep repousse and chasing techniques forming the decorative bands along the shoulder, neck, lid, and upper base of vessel, with well-formed makara shaped spout and handle, all atop a splayed footed base. This is a contemporary piece exactly 15 years old, but a very attractive ethnic handicraft.

An attractive copper and brass food container from Tibet. I am attracted by its simplicity and note that the copper part is brass brazed with a large dovetail seam around the middle.

A Tibetan Bronze figure of Shakyamuni, 19th century or earlier.

Buddha sat in a mediative pose, one hand in his lap, the other connects to the earth. The head has been dressed with gold paint, the hair exhibits traces of blue. A good quality sculpture that seems to have had a hard life and has seen better days. There is a bruise to each upper arm, one larger than the other and some distortion to the bottom of the lotus base.

An oval Thewa pendant from Rajasthan in northern India. Thewa is the technique invented around 400 years ago where filigree gold designs are fused onto a coloured glass ground, then backed with silver foil. This pendant depicts prey being attacked in what looks like a palace garden. The work is very fine and I have had to show the photographs oversize to show the detail. The pendant is missing its frame but still has a small card protector and the green silk backing.

This raw form covered in scorched white has been slabbed off in the Shinogi style by Atarashi Manabu. The word Shinogi denotes the curve on a samurai Sword blade, and has come to be used in pottery to describe things which have been scored or sculpted with a knife. The sake vessel is 15.5 cm (6 inches) tall and in excellent condition and comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shino Shinogi Tokkuri.

What a joy to hold this igneous Guinomi by Atarashi Manabu, the stone like texture and form are a pleasure to the palm. It is covered in thick ash outside, pooling into crystalline shades on the surface outside, while the inside is largely left untouched, offering a view of the clay and a stark contrast between the inner and outer surfaces to enjoy visually. A smokey landscape billows like clouds on this fabulous raw form by Atarashi Kanji enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Guinomi. Coals cling to one side, opposite milky green and white while inside a blast of crackled green ice has formed on the wall among a haze of smoke. It is 7 cm (2-3/4 inches) diameter, 5.5 cm tall and in excellent condition, directly from the artist. I highly recommend this with the Tokkuri following.
