An antique Japanese scholar's Ko Tansu (personal storage chest) made of Kurinoki (Chestnut) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. 3 side by side drawers above and below sliding doors where documents, brushes and paper were stored. Behind the doors is a split level shelf where books were kept with 2 small drawers to the right side. Age loss to some of the handle backplates.

Present day use for this chest would work well as a side table or larger bedside nightstand.

A hardwood carving of a gnarled pine bristling with needles over clouds in what appears to be some type of dark rosewood. The turret of a lonely outpost rises from the mountain peak formed by this small Japanese scholar rock set into a hand carved wooden base and enclosed in a wooden box titled Ko jinkaku (Small Armored Tower). The stone is 7 inches (18 cm) tall, 5 x 3 inches (13 x 8 cm). It likely was put together in the early 20th century.

Antique Japanese beige ceramic crackleware satsuma pilgrim vase, Meiji period 1868-1912. It is beautifully painted with two different scenes. The front and reverse are painted with a wheat plant in a field of chrysanthemums. The sides have cherry blossoms blooming in a stylized wave pattern. The mouth of the vase is square shaped, the base is rectangular. It measures 10" tall, 7.25" widest 2" deep.
