Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Horse (AD 618 - 906)

This very attractive pottery model of a horse was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is made from a buff-coloured pottery that has been "cold painted" in a reddish-brown pigment with black and white pigments to highlight the head, mane and tail. This horse is well-modelled and stands straight, alert, looking ahead.

Chinese Northern Qi Dynasty Painted Pottery Figure (Archer)

This painted pottery figure was made during the Northern Qi Dynasty (AD 550 - 577). It is made from a pale grey pottery that has been "cold painted" in various coloured pigments. The quiver to the figure's back tells us he is an archer. Note also the detail to the clothing, the long-sleeved robe, and the hair style.

This painted pottery figure was made during the Northern Qi Dynasty (AD 550 - 577). It is made from a pale grey pottery that has been "cold painted" in various coloured pigments. Note the detail to the clothing, the long-sleeved robe, and the hair style. The facial features are particularly good - he is surely smiling!

Chinese Northern Wei Dynasty Painted Pottery Figure (Drummer)

This painted pottery figure was made during the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 386 - 534). It is made from a pale grey pottery that has been "cold painted" in various coloured pigments. This figure is a soldier who also has a drum at his waist. In the right hand is the rusted stub of an iron pin, possibly part of the original drum stick. Note the detail to the clothing and head gear.

A unusually elaborate pottery figure of a female court lady, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD.), dating to late Ming period c. 1550-1650 AD.
