This exceptionally large brush pot is carved "au naturel" to imitate a tree trunk. The sculpture is very well executed with a perfect natural rendering. The wood is very heavy, shaded with dark brown, black and red, naturally, without having been stained. The grain is fine and tight. Rosewood or Sandalwood? The trunk was hollowed out with a small "hole saw". This pot was purchased in the 90s. A photo shows it "in situ" in 2016...

A Chinese pony carved from a jasper-like hard-stone in red, brown and ochre. Well carved and dating to the C18th. Standing on a fitted, wooden, base. 13cm long. Generally, good condition bar a chip to one ear. Provenace; from a private German collection, Hamburg. Additional photos are available upon request.

A Devine and exceptionally beautiful Chinese GENUINE JADE recumbent HORSE Ornament, late Ming/Qing Dynasties. The carving of it's mane and tail is particularly fine, striking and superbly rendered in a waving-like manner. This very refined mottled Horse has a craned neck, looking behind itself, which also brings motion to this creative and exceptional piece of art. Size: height 4.5 cm x width 6.5 cm. (1 3/4" x 2 1/2").

The mother lying on a cushion plays with her child, her legs crossed and her mutilated foot, her "lotus bud" ostentatiously stretched out. The attitude is provocative and cheerful. The 2 characters are positioned on a large square base, thick and heavy in black hard stone veined with brown. The use of this object escapes us, perhaps it is one of the 4 weights for large carpets, as was customary in India...

Buddhist monk in bronze cast with lost wax, gilded with gold leaf on lacquer. The character is represented standing on a lotus flower, hands joined in prayer. Chinese work from the end of the Ming dynasty, end of the 18th century or beginning of the 17th. No restoration. H:158mm

These two cannon handles were separated from the carriage by sawing. They are made of cast yellow bronze. They represent two powerful threatening dragons. Although they were discovered in Japan, they are certainly of Chinese origin. We think they are from the Ming period, 16th or 17th century, but they could be earlier. These are extremely rare objects, we do not know of any others...

Lost wax cast bronze monk. The character is represented standing with his hands folded in prayer. The cast iron is coarse, it has numerous defects and holes (circled in the photo), the one in the skull was filled. There remain traces of gilding on lacquer, the character must have been entirely lacquered, gilded or polychrome, which explains the neglect of finishing, the defects having been entirely covered. It is a small but powerful sculpture that has a strong presence...

The divinity is in bronze cast with lost wax, she is seated on a rock from which she can be easily separated, she is just placed and a tenon keeps her in the right position, she holds in her left hand a long scarf which after having surrounded its body widens curiously, it could be an empty bag, which is the attribute of Budai, the round and prominent belly of the statuette would confirm this hypothesis. The right hand held an object of which only the bottom part...

A rare Chinese painted grey pottery figure of a standing musician wearing a long robe and wind hat, Northern Wei dynasty (386 - 535 AD). 20 cms. Oxford TL test certificate. To date I have seen only one other musician from this rare set.

Antique Chinese pair of large ceramic fu-lions. Boldly sculpted with wild eyes and wide, toothy mouths. Glazed a brown color. Fu-dogs or Foo-lions are fierce protectors but are also playful and energetic.

Sino Tibetan impressed painted votive plaque with very fine detail and polychrome painted circa early 20th century, but the original mold could be much older. The central figure is a lama flanked by two other lamas with two wrathful deities below. Above are two Buddhas right and left and center Buddha in sitting a chair. H: 8.8cm x W: 6.6cm. Some missing painted areas- examine enlargements.

Delicately carved head of Fuxi, wearing an elaborate cap, his beautifully detailed face showing a slight smile. Wood, with remnants of superimposed layers of colouring. Remains of animal hair under the nose and chin to represent mustache and beard. Votive box (closed) at the back. China, Ming Dynasty period, 17th century. Height: 30 cm. The head is nicely mounted on a custom stand. Very good condition despite some flaking of the colouring...

Imposing standing wood sculpture of He Xiangu何仙姑- the only women in the pantheon of the Eight Chinese Immortals. This is at least Qing dynasty probably earlier originally she would be holding a lotus in her hands. Once source describes her as being “the Patron Saint of Housewives”. Height: 97cm/38in and has a lovely benevolent expression and enigmatic smile. Condition as pictured, there is a dedication niche on back but the contents have been removed
