$400.00 JOBOJI LACQUERWARE DISHES 2pc. Lacquer, wood. Diameter 15-16 cm (5.90-6.29in). Late Edo period, 18-19th century, Japan. Small lacquered wooden box in the shape of an eggplant. Top of the fruit near the
leaves painted with silver pigments. Interior painted with gold pigments, signature in

A kôgô is an incense box used in Japan during the tea ceremony. Made of glazed clay,
lacquered wood or white porcelain, it often represents animals, plants of human
figures...
Brush box (fudebako) made of wood and lacquer. On the lid, lacquer decoration
representing sagittarius, a flower inlaid with ceramic and a leaf inlaid with mother-of-
pearl (raden).

Gold lacquer kogo incense box in the shape of a mandarin duck. Its feathers are
delicately rendered in takamaki-e on the back and hiramaki-e on the belly. Gold, silver
and copper nashi-ji lacquer interior.

The Liberty and Co. was established in 1875 by Arthur Lisenby Liberty with the
intention of selling goods and furniture from all around the British empire. By the end
of the XIX th century, and with the growth in popularity of the arts and crafts
movement, the well implanted business diversifies. Most of the items sold were now
custom made for Liberty and are sold in the numerous shop of the firm. This specific
line occurred by the year 1905 and was fully made of hardwood in Japan...

sold A fantastic Meiji period tray used for serving sake featuring crows in a leafless tree under the full moon enclosed in an old wooden box signed Shunso. The tray is constructed of wood covered in a layer of cloth with dark red lacquer, the decoration fo crows in a tree performed in black under a moon of silver powder. It is 42.5 x42.5 x 4.5 cm and is in fine condition.

$2,600.00 A breathtaking tray decorated with early morning Lotus with misty clouds of gold on highly polished ro-iro black signed Kunisada featuring a solid silver rim enclosed in a silk lined box wrapped in blue cloth pouch stamped Ogaki Kunisada. Early morning dew beads like pearls in the basin of the dilapidated leaf in the fore, while the flower bulb, not ready yet to open, glistens gold in the late summer sunlight. The tray is 27.5 x 27.5 x 3cm (11 x 11 x 1-1/4 inches) and is in perfect condition...

$500.00 A stunning small lacquered box decorated with the golden leaves of Rohdea Japonica bearing pearl white fruit enclosed in the original wooden box. Solid silver lines the edges, and the entire glistens with powdered gold. It is 13 x 10 x 5.5 cm (5-1/4 x 4 x 2 inches) and is in excellent condition, with minor wear to the bottom typical of age and use.

Kobako in nashiji lacquer of square shape with a hira maki-e décor of a blossoming
cherry tree. Both of the four sides are adorned with golden lacquer cherry flowers,
represented in both profile and seen from above. The inside is made of hirame lacquer,
and the outline is circled with shibuchi.

sold A set of 10 brilliantly gleaming golden sake cups decorated with seasonal flowers dating from the early part of the 20th century enclosed in an age darkened kiri-wood box. Each is turned from wood, covered in lacquer mixed with powdered gold, and decorated with delicate Maki-e of florals denoting the various flowers of the seasons. They are 6.5 cm (2-1/2 inches) diameter, 3 cm tall and in excellent condition.
Beautifull inro of six compartments made of black gold, silver and tin lacquer,
representing a dragon on each side, surrounded by black and silver clouds, the inside
is made of nashi-ji lacquer. This variety of color texture is obtained by mixing raw
lacquer with metallic powder. Inro sold with its ojime and netsuke, representing a
tiger with incrusted eyes, made of buffalo horn.
In Japan, the dragon (called Ryu) is a symbol of great importance and wealth for
centuries...
Round tebako cosmetic box decorated with flowers in gold maki-e lacquer on a black background. Among the flowers are Japanese irisies, peonies and bamboo. Only the top compartment opens, the middle one being dummy. The box have three levels with a red lacquer interior.
