'Remote Landscape' by Tanomura Chokunyu (1814~1907)

Chokunyu was the step son of Tanomura Chikuden and he studied Chikuden's work. Chokunyu started to learn from Chikuden when he was 9 years old, and Chikuden found his talent and adopted him. Chokunyu learned Confucianism from Tsunoda Kyuka and Chinese poetry from Hirose Gyokuso. He also learned and got skills of Omotesenke Tea Ceremony, Kodo (Japanese art of appreciating incence) and Kenjutsu (the art of the sword)...

Japanese Imari Porcelain Black Ship and Namban design Bowl and Cover, 3 1/4" high & 5 1/8" diameter-with cover, 2 1/4" high & 4 3/4" diameter-bowl, later part of 1800's Meiji period, with overglaze decoration of six(6) Dutchmen and black ship in iron red background, highlighted in gold. Underglaze blue decoration of diaper pattern borders inside the bowl and under the lid, floral decoration on the bottom and the cover. The condition is good, no damage or restoration.

This is a CHOSHI of Japanese lacquer ware. CHOSHI is a kettle for the sake which was made about 170 years ago in the late Edo period.

Wan shape with a small foot and no Kagami (mirror - tea pool) inside.

The light iron bearing clay is decorated in the style of a Korean Miji-Hakaeme bowls: inside and the upper three quarters on the outside covered with a whitish Engobe over which a transparent ash glaze was applied, just sparing the inner part of the foot.
