SOLD Japanese fireman's coat from the Edo period, c. 1850. Cotton indigo dyed with sashiko stitching and freehand paste resist decoration (tsutsugaki). Design of a geisha standing in front of a red spider sitting atop its web. Flowers decorate the front and back. It measures 47" wide by 38" long.

$750.00 Bizen ware hexogonal vase with engravings of orchids on the side of the vase. The patina and color of the vase is very similar to those seen from the late Edo and early Meiji period. Interestingly, during this period elaborate decorations and moulding were created which was popular during this time. Sold. Made of iron, silver and gold. The center is showing the Nanzen-ji complex, a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto. Bordered by two beautifully elaborated dragons. The back with engraved ho-o birds and a long inscription, dated to the Taisho period (1917) and maker's seal. Condition: little wear, rim with one tiny blossom centre absent. $1,650.00 An appealing Seto ware Umanome (Horse eye) motif dish. This type of Seto ware was also referred to as ishizara, which can roughly be translated as stoneware. The first type of Seto stoneware appears in the Mino Taihei Monjo written around 1618. The wares were produced mainly for daily ware during the Edo period and became popular through the Mingei movement in the 20th century.
