A lot of drama in this crispy glazed tsubo deeply scored by the artists fingers, the trailing divets filled with running ash glaze by Murakoshi Takuma, two deep punctures in the side where it sank into the kiln supports, and a large artist performed gold repair where it had adhered to the kiln floor. The gold glimmers from the darkest part of the vessel, where it was charred black from laying in the embers...

Sold. Thank you. Amazing boro which used to be noragi (work wear). It is made of many fragments of vegetable indigo dye and hand^spun cotton cloth. It is from cold areas such as Tohoku or Japan Sea Side where cotton could not be cultivated and cotton cloth for kimono was expensive so that people bought fragments which were brought from warm areas such as Shikoku , Kandsai or Chubu districts. The second half of the 19th century. Measurement: Approx. 160cm x 150cm

It was "Nagoya obi" which was invented in early 20th century to make it easier to tie in the traditional style. Japanese mid-century sosaku hanga woodblock print by Kiyoshi Saito (1907-1997) titled "Winter in Aizu" from a series by the same name. Signed in black ink at the lower right and with the artist's red Kiyoshi seal above. Unlimited edition dating circa 1960s. Paper size: 11 9/16" x 17 1/8" (image: about 10" x 15 1/4). Very good overall condition and color with full margins. The print is very lightly sunstruck and there is a small faint browned spot in the center bottom by the margin...

There is no similar item on the antique market. Echizen ware (called Echizen yaki in Japanese) is a type of pottery produced in the town of Echizen, Fukui prefecture... First edition Japanese shin hanga woodblock print titled “Hawk on a Snow-covered Branch” by Ohara Koson (1878-1945), also known as Shoson, published by Watanabe in 1926. The Watanabe “A” seal (used 1924-1930) is located at the lower left margin. The artist's signature and seal are at the lower right section of the image. Conservatoire Sakura
sold Peacock in cast bronze and partially gilded shakudo in 2 shades of gold. Japanese work in the style of Miyao around 1900. No signature. Hardwood and boxwood plinth.Good condition, no welding and original patina. Very slight wear, insignificant for a century-old object.
The body of the peacock is raven wing black which suggests that it is in shakudo which represented a significant additional cost, the shakudo alloy being obtained by adding gold to copper.
Total height about 16cm.
