Evening Rain in Kawarago Date: 1947 Size: Oban. Approximately 14.75 x 10.5 inches. Publisher: Watanabe Shozaburo. Edition: First. Watanabe 6mm seal at lower left corner. Used 1946-1957. Reference: Hotei #504. Stamped "Original works of art" on back. Medium: Japanese woodblock print. Condition: Excellent. Pencil notation at upper right margin. Partial stamp at lower right margin.

SOLD. Standing Jizo Bosatsu holding a long-handled censer in both hands, figurally sculpted from a gray-hued igneous stone. Clearly dated on the back to the opening year of the Kyowa Era (1801), late-Edo Period. Very good condition overall, with notable exceptions of old loss to the figure's right hand as well as old loss to the front edge of the circular base.

Sold. Thank you. Kappa (cape) made of cotton kasuri on both sides which are hand-spun and natural indigo dyed. It is called "maru-gappa" or "hiki-mawashi" in old days. It was worn on the occasion of travel over kimono. It has washi (Japanese handmade paper) between two cotton cloth which is washed out and soft. The word "kappa" came from Portuguese "capa". The Portuguese first came to Japan in 17th century. The piping is made of handwoven hemp. Generally in good condition but has some holes and wear in cords...

Very good overall condition with cold painted facial features and much original pigment remaining. Typical losses. The flat base is sightly slanted so the figure does not stand upright without a support. From an old Tucson, Arizona collection. Purchased from a California gallery in the 1990s.

Fish top a bushel of rice and are tied with roped straw in an auspicious presentation meant to bring in a bounty of fortune. Adding to it, three of the Lucky Gods make an appearance in miniature, treating the decoration as if it were a boat or their ship of good luck. Sumi ink on silk. Dates from 18th century.

SOLD This is an extremely rare cloisonne masterpiece. It was created by one of the great Meiji artists, Ogasawara Shuzo. It is also a very large piece for cloisonne, at 14 3/4 inches wide and 7 tall. It probably weighs over 10 lbs. The entire dragon is raised relief. This is an eye catching piece that truly belongs in a Museum. Condition is excellent.

SOLD Antique Japanese scroll painting of a monkey seated near a blossoming peony. Painted with great expression and much attention to the details of the face, hands and feet of the monkey. Every hair is carefully brushed. Painted in light mineral colors and ink on silk. Bone ends. Signed Mori Sosen (1747-1821) with seal.

Yoshijiro produced this woodblock print from a watercolor by Brangwyn as part of their famous collaboration. Signed in pencil by both Brangwyn and Urushibara. Initialed by Brangwyn within image. Price on Request This is a very unusual Japanese Cloisonne vase that looks more like a porcelain blue and white vase. The vase has a mix of silver wire and wireless enamel work. The vase is heavy and has a nice glossy sheen. The rims have an unusual dark chocolate patina to them. It stands 9 5/8 inches tall and is 6 1/2 inches wide. Overall condition is very good but there are two short lines in the narrow white area just above the scroll on the base.

A very rare Nana-sun plate with swirling hake-me design from the kilns of Utsutsukawa dating from the early to mid Edo period wrapped in a ragged bit of sarasa dyed cotton cloth and enclosed in an age darkened wooden box titled Utsutsukawa-Yaki Kashibachi - Ikko (Sweets dish-1) It is 7-1/2 inches (19 cm) diameter. Thinly potted, there is a tiny chip in the rim, otherwise is in perfect condition; exceedingly rare for this type of pottery...
