Decoration of Sennin Chokaro with his gourd attribute in landscape, centered by extraordinary shironuki (drawn in white) decoration in the cavetto - each of four panels with a different auspicious figure and attributes. The outside of the shaped rim and sides also with simple shironuki decoration of a water border and a lotus blossom floating at each, dimpled corner...

A fine little octagonal blue and white porcelain kakiemon style deep dish. Chocolate brown glazed rim, white body and clear glaze over cobalt blue decoration of a primitive, raised teahouse with loose thatch roof and slung entrance screen all under a large willow tree and, conspicuously, a spiderweb (perhaps to emphasize closeness to nature) in the foreground. The interior wall and rim decorated with repeating pattern and karakusa (scrolling vine and leaf)...

A beautiful Annan tea bowl with silver repair (gintsugi) and fine sense of "aji" bestowed by age. Ornately decorated with flowering chrysanthemum, the skillfully applied silver repair to the bowl implies that it was treasured by its previous owner.

Annan-Yaki, is a tradition of pottery brought to Japan from the Annan province of ancient Imperial China (now part of Vietnam) from the late Muromachi period (1392 - 1573)...

Signed and unusual incense burner with two cloisonne floral designs mixed with some repousse work. Size: W. 11.5 x 11.5 cm. H. 3 cm. Condition: No repairs. Some loss of enamel on one of the floral patterns from age.

Antique Japanese fireman's helmet, or kaji kabuki. Made from iron and copper plated, with red lacquer front bill incised with smoke clouds. Beautiful lotus shaped finial details the top of the helmet. Round kanji emblems on its sides. Iron display stand is also included. Original finish and condition. Here we present a real old Ko-Karatsu Tenmoku Chawan with a wonderful yobitsugi repair. It dates from the early stages of the Japanese Azushi-Momoyama Period (1573-1603).

A yobitsugi repair is not just a simple repair, it is a recreation by using laquer and some fragments of broken pottery of the same or a similar kiln. The result is a breathtaking consistency of 'landscape' (keshiki)...

Small compact vase of irregular shape on a wide foot. Brown clay with white mineral and tiny pebble inclusions typical for Shigaraki and Iga ware, with green and white ash glaze over cross hatched pattern on the shoulder.
A small metal loop on the shoulder in the back to hang the vase from a beam in the tokonoma.

Japanese woodblock print of a tall pagoda standing in a moonlit scene, with several ladies walking the streets under parasols, and small shops lit by lanterns along the side. Signed "Tangyu Asada" (1899-1984) with chop and calligraphy. Tangyu's birth name was Benji Asada, born in Kyoto, he was active in Sosaku Hanga artist circles in the area.

Antique Japanese Butsudan shrine, in 3-sections secured by mortise and tenon joinery and by side ropes. The exterior is lacquered in black with gilt decorative hardware and panels. Its bottom section has three drawers, two sliding panels with gilt floral medallions, and a pull-out shelf with a gilt lotus bouquet. The front doors open with a second set of gilt mesh panels with painted floral motifs on each one...

Japanese woodblock print by well-known contemporary artist Tetsuya Noda (b. 1940), a professor at the Tokyo University of the Arts. His techniques combine woodblocks with silk screening. This print is part of his famed "Diary" series, titled "Diary : Jan. 15th '84 (1984)" in pencil. with calligraphy on the lefthand side, no. 39/40, signature in pencil with red fingerprint.

A fine Japanese boxwood netsuke carving of a tanuki, peering upwardly while holding a large sake container and a ledger book. He is a trickster spirit and is a highly amusing and popular icon. The netsuke has an expertly detailed carved form with a shell inlay signature on his underside.
