She is sitting on a pedestal in a Lalitasana posture (one leg folded inwards), and making hand gestures called Mudra, which hold special meaning in Buddhism. Her left hand is shown making the Vitarka Mudra, symbolizing intellectual discussion, and her right hand is making the Varada Mudra to symbolize gift giving. She has a lotus flower wrapped around her body, which symbolizes good fortune and purification of the spirit...

Fingers up and palm facing outwards means fearlessness and protection, fingers down and palm outwards means gift giving or bestowal, and fingers down and palm inwards is the gesture of earth witness, which Buddha is said to have been made during his Enlightenment. Hand carved wood angel with glass eyes from a rural Catholic church in the Philippines. Comes with a wood gold colored horn which rests on its hand. Measures 34" high; Wings total 16" across. Circa 1940-50s. Condition very good, some age cracks.

Striking antique Siam mid to late 19th. century Ayutthaya Kampheng head of Buddha Sakyamuni (The Awakened One). His face with serene expression, closed eyes, aquiline nose, smiling lips and elongated earlobes with earrings.

The head is hollow inside and mounted on a wood base. It has a weight of almost 6 kg. No repairs, good condition.

A rare Siam 18th. century Ayutthaya gilt bronze Buddha sits with legs crossed, right hand in the bhumispara mudra, the "calling the earth to witness" gesture, left hand in the mudra of meditation.

This posture symbolizes the union of method and wisdom, samasara and nirvana, and the realization of the conventional and ultimate truths. It was in this posture that Shakyamuni overcame obstructions while meditating on Truth, transforming delusions into mirror-like wisdom...

Indo Portuguese work, made in the 18th to early 19th century. Very well carved, note the eleborate dress. Remains of gilding. H. 22,5 cm. Condition: A part of the stand has been professionally restored (see picture) as well as the pinky fingers of the Virgin.
