Fine Thai 14th - 15th Century Stoneware Jar

This superbly-shaped stoneware jar was made at the Sawankhalok kilns during the 14th - 15th century. This is a particularly large example of this form with a diameter of 19 cm and a height of 16 cm. Conservatoire Sakura
$1,200.00
Covered vase, probably an urn, either funerary or ritual. It is carved from a single piece of very dark reddish-brown almost black hardwood. The lid adapts perfectly to the receptacle which required perfect mastery because the shape is wavy. On the "neck" of the lid are traced wide curves like so many necklaces on a female neck. This urn can be used with advantage to present jewelry. Here we have put as an example a Chinese necklace from the Neolithic period which is not for sale...

Very rare Khmer black lacquer “pillow box” with an abstract floral pattern. This is an old pre Khmer Rouge item, dating 50 to 60 years old, possibly more. The unique decoration makes this a one of a kind piece, the construction is typically Cambodian, in that it is constructed with thin small planks of wood and is coated with raw lacquer on the bottom, and this was sourced in the “Russian Market” about 15 years ago in Phnom Phenh...
