sold Cylinder shaped (hanzutsu) tea bowl made of light, fine unrefined Mino clay. Style (trimmed mouth, very controlled glaze) make it appear contemporary with the late Oribe bowls. The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical white, feldspatic Shino glaze which has been poured and under which a decoration of brush strokes has been applied in iron oxide (oni ita) representing grass and fences. The interior houses ten drawers of varying size opened by hirute style handles complimenting the gorgeous natural woodgrain. Custom iron stand included. Meiji Period (1868 - 1912). SOLD. Seated Jizo Bosatsu, the left hand holding a hoju (sacred jewel) and the right a shakujo (crozier), figurally sculpted from a large-grained sedimentary stone. Mid-Edo Period ca. 1725. Minor old loss, with softening of the lines and contours overall.
Height: 62 cm Sadogashima, an island in the Japan Sea off the coast of Niigata Prefecture, is famous for its production of a distinctive style of figurally sculpted stone Jizo. Sadogashima... Salt box with its lid, of rectangular shape, decorated with incised geometric design on its sides, and geometric, partly in relief, design on its lid. An opening on the lid allows a spoon (now missing) to rest inside the box. Nepal, 19th century. Length: 18,7 cm. Height: 11 cm. Some erosion due to age, otherwise very good condition. Collected in Nepal in the early seventies.

Early 19th century Size: 65" high x 35 1/2" wide x 19" deep. Chinese Qing dynasty painting on paper of a Confucian worthy seated on a chair in a black robe covered with dragons and animals. He holds a green tablet containing his achievements. A calligraphic inscription describing his accomplishments is at the upper left. Newly framed with Plexiglas to facilitate shipping.
