Seated male Shinto god (kami), a ritual baton (shaku) held in the centrally placed hands, sculpted from tuff, an igneous stone composed primarily of volcanic ash. Early- to mid-Edo Period ca. 1700. Old loss, most notably to the tall courtly hat (eboshi) commonly seen on depictions of male Shinto gods. Heavy lichen accumulation.

Elegant and sophisticated Shino Chawan, wonderful dialogue of brown and cream Shino crackle glaze, made during the early to the mid Edo period.

It is decorated outside with the Imperial Seal of Japan, the Chrysanthemum Seal and inside with two stars. This design I have never seen on other tea bowls before.

No cracks or repairs, just aesthetic inborn kiln cracks. Gorgeous and rare.

Charming Chinese acrobat in a handstand atop a natural rootwood base. The acrobat is hand carved out of boxwood. He wears shorts tied at the waist and a pair boots. His hair is tied back and he has a goatee. Very finely carved. It is from the Ching Dynasty, 19th century. It measures 27 tall, about 18" wide at the base. Excellent original condition.
