$2,000.00 Wooden carving of Daruma or Bodhidharma, a Buddhist monk who lived in the 5th or 6th century CE. He is depicted as ill-tempered and is shown here with a deep frown as he meditates. This Daruma carving is painted with red, bronze, and gold lacquer paint and appears to have once been mounted as the top and bottom have holes carved into them and a metal rod going through it to be affixed to a structure, most likely a lamp. Meiji period 19th century.

He is easily identifiable by his elephant's head and four arms, two of which are shown holding his own broken tusks, and one of which is grasping his nose. He sits under an archway upon a hippopotamus with its head turned straight upward. Early 20th century (1900-1925)

Sold in our Liverpool shop - May 2014 / 利物浦店 内售出 - 2014年5月 An early 18th Century porcelain tea bowl and saucer decorated in underglaze blue with overgalze iron red and green enamels in "Verte Imari" style. This item was made in China for export to Europe early in the 18th Century, probably during the reign of the Yongzheng emperor (1723-1735).

$2,750.00 Rare wide brimmed Tibetan hat, meant to be worn by reincarnated lamas of a high-rank, called Tulku, who have the power to choose their manner of rebirth. It is covered in a copper/gold lacquer over incised designs with coiled dragons, flowers, and various Buddhist symbols. The inner part has pierced characters and a raised design, and is topped with a bronze and quartz finial with auspicious designs. Inside of hat has an illegible signature. 17th century

SOLD. Standing Jizo Bosatsu in wood, yosegi-zukuri (joined-block wood construction), sculpted eyes, and finished in lacquer and gilt. Late-Muromachi/Momoyama Period ca. 1550. Loss of both hands and minor points of old wood loss, as well as heavy black-soot patination overall.
Height of Jizo figure only: 29.5 cm An exquisitely sculpted, desirably patinated Jizo Bosatsu. The gilt-wood dais, not original to the Jizo piece, is included.

No repairs, only a tiny piece of the tail is chipped off and some peaks of the teeth are missing, hard to notice! and it does not...

The combination of red and white flower symbolizes good fortune. This subject was painted in life size and a very good example of Kano school peony painting.

The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical feldspatic shino glaze inside and outside, with the exception of the bottom' the roughly cut foot ring. SOLD. Standing Bato (Horse-Head) Kannon Bosatsu, the hands forming the Bato-in mudra and a horse head perched atop the Kannon figure's head, sculpted in relief from a brick-colored sandstone. Clearly dated to the 20th year of the Meiji Period (1887). Very minor old loss, with variegated lichen accumulation.
Height: 40 cm A colorful, vividly graphic 19th-century Bato-Kannon stone. Chinese Qing dynasty ovoid form porcelain fish bowl decorated around the circumference in underglaze blue on a white ground with lotus seedpods and scrolling tendrils topped by a border of alternating pendant spear points and ruyi heads. The pot tapers to an unglazed, flat, slightly recessed base. The interior, rolled rim, and raised rib under the rim are all glazed white.
