Chinese Tang Dynasty Pottery Walking Ox / Bull (AD 618 - 906)

This pottery model of an ox, or bull, was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is made from a grey pottery. This ox is well-modelled and is in the act of walking with its head looking determinedly straight ahead.

Length 27 cm. A lovely example in very good condition with only signs of minor repair to two legs.

Chinese Yuan dynasty flattened rounded form twin-handled moon flask covered in an amber-brown glaze, each face with moulded relief figural decoration possibly depicting dancers and musicians. The high foot with unglazed, recessed base has two typical pierced holes. The shape was derived from flasks carried along the Silk Road by West Asian merchants. Stainless steel paper knife with the handle made of a large natural piece of polished lump of amber from the west coast of Denmark. Best Deep Yellow / Honey natural colour! Amber Lump size: L 8,5 x 6 cm. Total Length 21 cm. Weight: 99 gr. Great patina from age and use. Old piece of amber probably found in the fist part of the 20th century and than mounted as paper knife.

Round in shape and very decorative on a white porcelain base, the decoration, in polychromy of iron red, underglaze blue and gold enamels, represents a lake landscape with boats under sail and a mountainous background in the background. Period: Meiji (1868-1912). Diameter: 31 cm.

Japanese limited edition copperplate etching titled “Kyoto #7: Kozan-ji” by Tanaka Ryohei (1933-2019). Pencil-signed, dated '96, and numbered 141/150 in the lower margin. The title in kanji is at the bottom left margin. Paper: 11 5/8" x 10 1/4" (image: 6 3/8" x 8"). Very good overall condition with a possible faintly visible smudge in the upper left margin corner. There are a few distressed fibers on the back, but the print does not appear to have been previously framed.

The title in kanji and the number 630 is at the bottom left margin. Paper: 10 3/16" x 11 7/8" (image: 6 1/2" x 8"). Very good overall condition with only a tiny bend in the very edge of the upper left margin. Never framed.

Antique Japanese carved wooden figure of a fu-dog (fu-lion) guardian. Traces of paint and gold guilt remain. The underside has writing in ink and a translation which reads: "This pair of Foo-lions was donated to the gate of Myoken Nichiren Shrine in Noma village of the province of Sesshu (near Osaka) on the date of 9th May, 7th year of Genroku ra. (1694 AD) by Gendo Ujihiro Inoue for his memory of accomplishment of repeating "Nichiren" prayer 300 times."

Antique Japanese pair of Kutani ware porcelain fu-dogs. Each figure is glazed brown with green curling mane and tail. They stand on a yellow and brown glazed rectangular platforms. One has an open mouth while the other has a small horn. Fu-dogs or Foo-lions are fierce protectors but are also playful and energetic.

Three antique Timorese wooden statues commemorating a departed loved one. These were kept in the “attic” of a home and were not meant to be free standing. I bought this from an old Australian collection which was collected in the 1980s in West Timor, so these date circa 1950’s to 1960s.
