Sold, Thank you! A gourd shaped black Bizen Tokkuri by Oiwa Tomoyuki enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kuro Tokkuri. A pleasure to view, the off-kilter form is blasted with powdery dry ash on one side which turns to molten rivulets on the edges crawling around to bead up on the opposite dark shiny clay. The Tokkuri 16.5 cm (6-1/2 inches) tall and in excellent condition. Acquired on our recent trip to Bizen in June.

$480.00 Excellent painted work of Okuda Mokuhaku (1800–1871) who is known as the reviver of the Akahada ware traditions during the late Edo and the early Meiji periods.
Mokuhaku Okuda, a wealthy merchant, was also a notable tea master of the nearby city of Koriyama, worked in the Akahada kiln in the mid 1800`s. His work involved various utensils and tea ceremony installments. From creating artistic pieces to decorating utilitarian vessels, he is considered the master of Akahada ware... Red Raku Chawan made by Ennosai Tetchu Soshitsu (1872-1924), 13th generation head of the Urasenke tea school.
Ennosai's mark is carved at the bottom. Intentionally imperfect, the bowl is very solid and fits perfectly into the palm of the hands giving strong presence and the sense of space. Ennosai Tetchu Soshitsu became the head of Urasenke at the age of twelve. He devoted himself to preserving and restoring the school's cultural traditions (which were on the ver... Suna-Gohon (sand is added to the clay) tea ware was fired at the Japanese consular office in Busan in the early Edo period (1603-1868) and sent to the Tokugawa family and other daimyo. The kiln was closed in 1718. Size Diameter 13.3cm Height 8cm In good antique condition. There are minor cracks, old gold lacquer and foot repairs. Supplied with modern wooden box.

The depiction was well done by excellent craftsmanship. It was hollow casted. Nice patina was preserved on the surface. One side was squeezed. Date: 2 B.C , Western Han periods. Dimensions 13 cm x 8.5cm x 4.0cm. Similar piece was found in the Yunnan Province Museum. Bronze Stand is not included.

Fine old Burma lacquerware box. This piece is quite rare in that it is a complete set with three compartments on top and one shallow “hidden” compartment in the base. There is an old repair on the cracquelure on the lid as well as some traditional restoration on the undecorated portions. This is an early 20th century piece (possibly 19th century) from the Gadu-Ganan region, Shan State. D: 16.cm/6.2in and W: 16cm/6.2in.

Old hand carved wooden ink pad box circa first half 20th century. I think this is probably a Yao item, but as I purchased it in a Bai ethnic minority market in Yunnan, over 20 years ago, we’ll assume it is Bai. This has a floral pattern carved on the lid. The ink has long ago dried up. Nice natural patina. L: 7.2cm/2.9in x W: 5.8cm/2.3in x H: 3.2cm/1.3in.

This attractive small covered jar was made during the 13th / 14th Century (Song / Yuan Dynasty). It is quite "heavily-potted" for its type and is coated inside and out in a pale Qingbai-type glaze. The glaze falls short of the sturdy foot and the underside of the cover also remains unglazed. The cover has a carved pattern to give it the appearance of a tiled roof; this jar represents a granary.
