Born in Shigaraki in 1913, Tani Seiuemon was the key person to revive old Ko-Shigaraki and Ko-Iga styles with natural ash glaze effects.
Tani Seiuemon works are exhibited in British museum and Cleveland Museum of Art.
Currently, his son Tani Q operates the family kiln in Shigarakicho.

This rare little gem is made by Morihiro Hosokawa (b. 1938) who served as the prime minister of Japan from 1993 to 1994.

He is also the head of the Kumamoto-Hosokawa clan, one of the noble families of Japan.
The clan was descended from the Seiwa Genji, a branch of the Minamoto clan, and ultimately from Emperor Seiwa (850 – 881) himself.
Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543–1616), founder of the Tokugawa shogunate, also claimed descent from this lineage.

Bizen ware Sake set of Tokkuri and Guinomi made by Bizen master Joji Yamashita (b. 1947) The mark of the artist is carved on the base.

Joji Yamashita was born in Tokyo in 1947. He moved to Canada in 1967 where he graduated from Vancouver Art School.
After returning to Japan in 1970, he studied Bizen ware under Isezaki Jun and established his own kiln in 1978.

Elegant Agano ware Chaire (tea caddy) with lovely bluish green glaze made in Fukuchi, Fukuoka Prefecture.
The mark of the kiln is stamped on the base.

Agano ware pottery is produced in today's Fukuoka prefecture since 1602 when the lord of the Kokura domain, a master of the tea ceremony, brought Sonkai, a potter from Korea's Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897), to build a climbing kiln in Agano area.

Vivid bluish green glaze rich of copper is a typical for Agano ware.

Japanese Antique Aka Raku Chawan (tea bowl) by the 1st Choraku Ogawa (1874-1939).
The potter's mark is stamped near the foot ring.

Ogawa Choraku is one of the best known Raku potters of modern times and the founder of Choraku potter family.
He became the disciple of 11th Raku Kichizaemon (Keinyu) and 12th Raku Kichizaemon (Konyu) and started his own kiln in 1904.
He received the name Choraku in 1906 from Choyuken, the head of a Urasenke tea ceremony association.

Nyoirin Kannon Bosatsu in characteristic seated pose of royal ease, sculpted in relief from a brick-hued sedimentary stone. Clearly dated to both the eighth year of the Tenmei reign period (1789) and the ninth year of the Kansei reign period (1798), late-Edo Period. Very minor old loss, with light dried lichen accumulation.
