Wow I need that! is all I could say the first time I saw this piece by Furutani Taketoshi while visiting the Churokuen Kiln early this year. The tendrils of natural ash glaze wrap around the simplified form like the roots of some ancient Shinboku (God Tree). Massive Qing dynasty Chinese polished bronze tripod ding censer with compressed body, two arched loop handles at the rim, and tapered legs fitted on a custom hardwood stand. Cast in a Ming dynasty style and bearing a six-character apocryphal Xuande reign period mark within a rectangle on the base. Believed to date as early as the 18th century. Large Leafed Vines are silhouetted against age darkened silver on this striking covered basin by Banura Shiro enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The overall length is 13 inches (33 cm). The Parfumier is 2.2 inches (5.5 cm) wide by 0.63 inch (1.6 cm) thick. The rectangular jade plaque is 2.95 inches (7.5 cm) in length by 1.6 inches (4 cm) wide. The butterfly is 2 inches (5 cm) in length by 3.1 inches (8 cm) wide. Total weight is 227 gram.

Antique Japanese small round hibachi carved of kiri (paulownia) wood and lined with copper. It is decorated with a still-life display of a fishing basket, fisherman's rod and the catch of the day. Beautifully captured in raised gold maki-e lacquer, the fishing basket and fish have a life-like appearance. The large fish that has just been caught glitters with inlaid shell. And could that be Ebisu's hat on the ground nearby?
