Fine Chinese Tang Dynasty Sancai Glazed Pottery Groom Figure (Published & with Oxford TL Test)

This fine pottery figure was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906) and represents a foreign male attendant or groom. It is "heavily-potted" and made from a cream-coloured pottery that is relatively highly-fired. The body is coated in very finely-crackled green and amber glazes.

This impressive porcelain dish dates to c.1540 - 1620, from the late Jiajing reign to the Wanli reign. It has a foliated rim and is decorated in underglaze blue of good colour. Unusual pottery bowl with hand molded snake handle. I cannot find any pieces similar in style to this although the reddish clay and heavy potting are reminiscent of Hongshan pottery. This came out of China and has a good petrichor and water absorption on the base, very old- at least 2000 to 3000 years old but probably older. W: 14cm/5.5in and H: 12cm/4.7in.
