Chinese Ming dynasty porcelain dish decorated in underglaze blue on a white ground with a hou in a central roundel surrounded by a band of peony flowers and scrolling foliage. One of the nine sons of the dragon, the hou has the appearance of a lion and is depicted roaring at the sky. A similar peony band with scrolling foliage encircles the rim on the reverse side.
