Zentner Collection
SOLD Chinese print, made in the 1950s by the National Museum in Taipei, of 16th or 17th century original fan. This print is part of a collection of four volumes each with 10 prints or paintings and fans. The woman is wearing elegant garments that billow in the wind as she stands atop a phoenix whose wings are flapping as they ascend through the clouds together, the sun glowing behind them. The image measures 8" wide. The book measures 15.25" tall 13" wide .5" deep.

The figure stands statuesque and unperturbed atop a turbulent sea holding a string of beads. The robes drape gently down the figure and almost flutter in the wind. Sale Pending A finely carved Chinese agate in the form of a popular motif often seen in Tibet which is the windhorse. The use of Tibetan motifs in Chinese arts began during the Ming dynasty with patronage of the Tibetan high lamas and continued onwards into the Qing Dynasty. The windhorse is carrying a pecha or sutra text, a signature motif often found on windhorses. The stylized ribbons and the waves are done in the Chinese style.
