Zentner Collection
SOLD Very charming Japanese choba tansu (merchant's chest) made from very beautiful keyaki (zelkova) wood, horizontal slats on its sides, decorative iron hardware including diamond shaped handles with incised scrolling vines, hirute drawer handles, and a cloud-shaped lockplate for a small hinged door with three small drawers inside. Dates from the Meiji period (1868-1912).

SOLD Antique Japanese rare fune bako (ship safe box) with interesting large, heavy iron warabite handles on its front and backside, front lockplate with flower shaped iron knob and hinged locking pin. Lid is completely removable and has short inscription inside. Meiji period (1868-1912) Original Beautiful Condition.

SOLD Antique Japanese two-section kiri (paulownia) tansu with interesting kakute (squared) iron handles paired with round locks on each of its drawers. The two sections connect at the sides with pierced iron plating. Great condition, 100% Kiri wood.

Hardware is old black iron, shows some wear and tear, some rust, small broken pieces.

SOLD Antique Japanese cha tansu (tea storage chest) with a lovely red/brown lacquered burl front with a gorgeous shine, and a warm honey-tone lacquered top and interior. It has many sliding door panels with plenty of storage space and shelving within, and five exterior drawers with interesting V-shaped handles.

$3,000.00 Antique Japanese gyosho bako, or merchant's chest, in a tall and slender style with many drawers. It is made of kiri (paulownia) wood with a dark brown lacquer. The drawers bear an emblem faded from age, perhaps once used to label the contents inside. The very bottom drawer has an iron locking plate. Edo age (1615-1867).
Exhibited in Palo Alto Cultural Center.
