Rare and wonderful Kyogen Theater mask dating from the Edo period, the golden age of Noh Drama. Kyogen are short, humorous skits performed between Noh acts to lighten the mood. He has gold eyes with a rich red lacquer finish. Red represents both drunkenness and healing. The large nose gives a striking sense of comic drama. Very rare Japanese comic demon Buaku Kyogen mask dating from the Edo Period, the golden age of Noh Drama. The Buaku mask is a Kyogen version of the Noh Beshimi. Kyogen were short, humorous skits performed between Noh acts to lighten the mood. The heavily knit brows and wide leering grimace are wonderful characteristics of this mask. It is covered in layered colored gofun (oyster shell lacquer), with hair painted with thin lines of ink over the top...

Antique Japanese choba tansu (merchant's chest), made of kiri (paulownia) wood, iron hardware, from the Mikuni area of Japan, Meiji Period, (1868-1912). Size: 41" high x 36" wide x 16 3/5" deep.

Gorinto (5-tiered stupa) sculpted in one piece from tuff, a sedimentary stone composed largely of volcanic ash. Nanbokucho Period ca. 1350—1400. Minor old loss. Heavy lichen accumulation overall, with dark-brown dessicated insect egg-sac shells clustered on one of the four sides.

This is tsutsugaki Fireman shirushi hanten coat in Edo period(1603-1867). It is very impressive hanten of the design of the dragon. The material is seems to be hand spun in thick indigo dye cotton. It is very beautiful.It is made of hand-spun and hand-woven and natural indigo dyed cotton. There is a stain. There is no damage. It is very good. size:88cm x 127cm (34.6" x 49,8")

An original painting on shikishi paper by Suda Kyochu (1908 - 1964), depicting a frog in a pond. Painted in ink and with natural pigments. Suda Kyochu was a pupil of Seison Maeda (1885 - 1977), one of the greatest contemporary Japanese painters and one of the founders of the Nihonga movement. Signed and with original folder. Condition: fine. Dimension: 17 cm x 24.2 cm.

Wonderful rare Japanese fully articulated dragon, made of silver with gold eyes, Myochin School, underside of his signed Myochin, comes with black lacquer stand, Meiji/Taisho Period. minor repair work (some pins have been replaced). Size of dragon: 31" long x 10" high

This an exquisite Satsuma tea jar from Ryozan. The gold work and painting are examples of his best workmanship. The piece is in excellent condition but the original lid is missing and this lid has a repair. It was used to help this great piece display better. Maybe some one out there has a better lid for the great piece. It stands 6 inches tall.

A Meiji scene of samurai preparing for battle, a noble women looking on with apprehension as a courier brings word from the battlefield. The lord fixes the knot on his helmet, preparing to rush into the fray. The scene is performed in pigment on silk, and we have had it completely re-mounted with a black frame reflecting the original style with sturdy cloth backing...
