$950.00 Jizo Bosatsu and Amida Nyorai standing side by side, Jizo with hands forming the gassho adoration mudra and Amida with hands forming the Amida jo-in meditation mudra, sculpted in relief from a gray-hued volcanic stone. Late-Edo Period ca. 1800. Excellent condition, with only minor old loss.
Height: 42 cm An uncommon stone.

A hinged door hides two small drawers behind and two sliding doors hide a storage space where books and reading material was tucked away.
Its original purpose was for the storage of papers, ephemera, letters, documents, books and small accessories...
