A set of four fans (uchiwa) made of bamboo and washi (Japanese hand-made paper). Each has hand-painted pictures and signs such as three kabuki "kumadori" which is special makeup of the kabuki player and Otahuku. All have the same written seal marks, however the name of the artist is not clear. Two are painted with kakishibu (persimmon tannin) 20th century. In excellent condition. W:30.5cm H:35.5cm

Antique Japanese set of 7 imari plates, with cobalt blue underglaze phoenix motif accented in gilt, surrounded by a network of various flowers, red and gilt emblems, butterflies, and cobalt blue geometric design along the inner rim. The underside features designs of mon with leaves and tassels, and six character mark in the center of the foot.

Japanese antique transom made of keyaki (elm) wood and carved with a scene of Ushiwaka and Benkei battling on Gojo Bridge in Kyoto. The young samurai, Yoshitsune (also known as Ushiwaka-maru) is depicted in an acrobatic pose, leaping over Benkei, the giant wild-man who was intent on stealing Ushiwaka's sword. Another samurai is carved below them, his much smaller form suggesting he is far below the action...

Japanese antique transom made of keyaki (elm) wood and carved with scenes of samurai warriors. On the left hand side, a general gives orders to his troops (small figures carved in the round) partially behind a camp curtain. On the right hand side, another samurai rides a battle horse and raises his weapon high over his head. All around them are pine branches and swirling mist.

Edo Period (19th century)

Original Kanda Gallery frame with non-glare glass measuring 32 3/4” x 22 1/2." The print has not been examined out of the frame, but no condition problems are visible.

Here is a real beauty. Perfect in form, shape and design: Ao-Oribe (Green Oribe) Chawan from the early stage of Edo period. Little distorted half cylinder shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl with slightly flaring mouth made of light, unrefined Mino clay.

This is an amazing small cloisonne vase. It is only 5 inches tall but has as much fine work as a great 12 inch vase. The rims are silver. It is not signed but the enamel colors and wire designs in the flowers appear to be the work Hayashi. Condition is excellent.
