An incredible monumental triangular architectural pediment, chua from Thailand. Carved of wood in high relief, the design is of scrolling peony vines entwining monkey figures. The anthropomorphized monkeys, dressed in clothing and with human hands, are suggestive of the Hindu deity, Hanuman. A superb example of the mastery of Bizen Saiku-mono sculptures by Nishimura Shunko dating to the pre-war era.
