Two antique Chinese famille rose porcelain bowls, both bowls have 'Guangxu' mark on the bases and of the period. Chinese blanc de chine porcelain statue of Quan Yin, the Buddhist bodhisattva associated with compassion. Her name is short for Guanshiyin, meaning "Observing the Cries of the World." She stands upon strong, rolling winds and holds a lotus flower in her left hand. Burmese painting done on a large, cloth canvas, likely depicting the Jataka tales, or stories of Buddha, with nine separate panels, each depicting a different tale of Buddha's previous lives. The design of butterflies and melons is seldom encountered on Chinese porcelain, found only on a few Qianlong pieces. This shaped dish I feel is from the early 19th century but the ‘orange peel’ surface of the porcelain is often found on Qianlong export pieces. Like the Qianlong painted melons these have a pronounced ‘spotting’ in either famille rose or gold enamel on the fruits.
