Jizo Bosatsu seated upon a lotus-form dais, the hands holding a hoju (sacred jewel), figurally sculpted from granite. Late-Edo Period ca. 1800. Very minor old loss, with overall softening of the lines and contours. Light lichen accumulation.

Hewn with elegant simplicity from a high-quality granite and in excellent condition, a very desirable Jizo stone.

Standing Bosatsu (probably Kannon) nagarebutsu (lit. flowing Buddha) sculpted from a single piece of wood (ichiboku-zukuri), originally finished in lacquer and gilt. Late-Heian Period ca. 1100. Stable condition, i.e., fumigated against further intrusions by wood-devouring insects.

A Lusan stem cup was in lovely size.
It was well preserved by reflecting the retrospective sheen of old condition.
Blue and white splashes were suffused against the dark brownish glaze background on the surface.
Loosening-feel body clay was revealed at the lower portion in beige tint.

A rare and unusual archaic style Jade carving in the form of a "double bird" You. There is a late Shang dynasty bronze You of similar form, described as a Xiao You (Owl You) in the collection of Shanxi Museum, Shanxi Province. This item was exhibited in the Royal Academy, 1973, and can be seen on page 72 of "The Genius of China" (ISBN 0 7230 0107 3). A large 16th Century Ming Dynasty deep dish painted in underglaze blue with grape and vine decoration to the centre and with alternating flowers and buddhist emblems around the rim. The underside is painted with elongated prunus branches under the rim and with stylized peach branches to the inside. The base is unglazed. Beautiful mother of pearl inlaid in hardwood. The arms are inlaid with a scroll design. The back of the chair is inlaid with an elegant battle scene with men on horseback and a fort. The reverse of the chair is inlaid with flowers. The seat has 4 petal pattern at each corner. The legs, arms, and frame of the chair are beautifully carved with bats, plums and a scrolling pattern. Measures 41" tall, seat measures 16" wide, 17.5" tall.
